USC Student Information Gateway
“Undergraduate recruitment is a strategic focus for USC, and an increasingly competitive challenge. By using Igneous’ customer-centric Web technology as a tool for becoming more responsive, we are better able to recruit the next generation of leaders, and we will advance USC’s overall mission and reputation. With SIG, we envisioned a system that would enhance the sense of connection between prospective students and USC, and create an interactive environment that is learner-centered, self-directed, and personalized. This is exactly what Igneous delivered.” --Katharine Harrington, USC Dean of Admission and Financial Aid
Challenge
Prospective students do most of their college research online. Using current technology, most University Web sites overwhelm students with so much information that it's hard for students to find information that's relevant to their specific situation. USC wanted to convey its focus on student-centered learning, by reaching out to prospective students with a Web site that gives each student his or her own personal view of academic and extracurricular life at USC.
Solution
The Igneous Group created a powerful new Web-based recruitment tool for University of Southern California—the Student Information Gateway (SIG). SIG is a self-service system that allows today’s tech-savvy high school students to get information the way they want it. Unlike other automated admissions processes that can be mechanical and impersonal, the SIG application developed by Igneous delivers highly customized information, or “views,” for undergraduates according to their personal choices and preferences, making it easy for each prospective student to see USC through the lens of their own goals, needs, extra-curricular interests, and learning styles.
Results
Thousands of high school students across the nation used the SIG application to envision their future at USC.
