Challenge
Enercopia managed a cooperative rewards program for members of a Midwest energy co-op. The program included a database of participating merchants and their offers that was accessible to co-op members through a Web site. Twice a year, Enercopia used a tedious and manual process to extract information from the database and format it for printing in booklet form. Enercopia's executive team was looking for solutions to automate and streamline this process in order to build a reproducible platform that could be sold to other such groups.
Solution
In less than four weeks, the Igneous Group built an automated publishing system that extracted merchant information from the database, ordered it appropriately, and output a text file that could be formatted by the printer.
In analyzing the database and the forms used by Enercopia Representatives to add merchant information, The Igneous Group found and fixed several security issues.
As a follow-on project, The Igneous Group consulted on technology strategy for the Enercopia business plan and built a prototype publishing system that took data directly from the database to PDF booklet format.
Results
Enercopia was able to produce the merchant rewards booklet in record time with less effort spent in preparing the data.
