SACNAS
National Conference Site
Challenge
The Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) encourages Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels. It provides mentoring programs, teacher workshops, online internship/job placement tools and other programs directed at students and educators. Its annual National Conference provides an opportunity for students, faculty and professionals in science and education to share research, address the unique accomplishments and challenges of minorities in science, form networks of mentors and colleagues, and gain access to educational and career opportunities.
SACNAS had previously built a highly automated Web site to support conference operations. They had a list of site problems and new features that they wanted to implement before the next conference.
Solution
The Igneous Group performed a thorough review of the existing conference site and made several technology configuration and security recommendations. We worked with SACNAS management to prioritize fixes and new features to fit the timeframe and budget. We built a beta test site on our servers, and helped implement a change control system. With the system in place, we updated their site to reflect the fixes and features they wanted in time for the next conference.
Results
The conference site worked flawlessly and The Igneous Group continues to work with SACNAS to make minor changes and add new features.
