UCSC Summer Session
Challenge
The University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Summer Session needed an online registration system. The campus was in a major transition from a 20-year-old student information system to a PeopleSoft system. Summer Session would not be able to utilize the new student information system for several years. In addition, Summer Session offers several classes that are "open" to non-UCSC students, and needed a solution that would support students who weren't included in the campus-wide student information system.
Solution
The Igneous Group helped Summer Session technical staff set up their own Web server and move their existing Web site to that server.
We then built the Web pages for the online registration process and helped deploy them on the Web site. The registration process includes a complete course "shopping cart" and credit card payment processing.
In subsequent years, we've worked with Summer Session to refine the registration process, improve usability, make other annual changes, and help insure compliance with PCI standards for handling personal credit card data.
Results
The online registration forms were delivered and deployed in time for registration for summer 2003. For several following years, thousands of students used the forms to successfully register for classes.
